I’ll divide my reflection into 2 parts, for subject and my teacher.
Reflection to ENG-380 English for International Trade:
At the first time that I saw this subject in list, I really wanted to take this course. Because of my minor subject, I thought this course is suitable for me lots. Surely, everybody who take this course expected to the content of subject and new teacher, me too. For the content of subject, I just expected to what is the real business world? and how can I use English professionally in business context? After I finished this course, I have known already that learning business management in English is more difficult than in Thai. However, learning in English, I got a lot of new knowledge and skills; for example I have known already what is the hardest to analyze business information in English; it’s really difficult for me. Because of vocabulary in business context, I didn’t sure what is the best word for each situation, but now I was practiced already because you gave us the big project to practice; I understood it now.
Reflection to my teacher:
I have not much to comment you because you’re a perfect teacher; this is the truth of my mind. You aren’t only the teacher who gives only lecture but you’re my supervisor, my advisor, my idol in business and teaching, and you’re my best memory of teacher at this university. I just wan to say; why we meet lately. This is the first and the last class that I can study with you; this is the sad story.
Lastly, for this blog, I did it my best now, but I believe that, later I can do it better.
The best memory!

Promotion strategy
M·A·C company regard as interesting case study of promotion strategy. M·A·C is one of few company that does not advertise because they do not believe that slogans are as explicit or as effective. They do not want to have to tell someone to buy their products. They also don't want to put a idealized corporate face on their product.
They don't wan to make a women feel like she has to buy this product. Toskan brings a fresh new commitment to the business of beauty.
"This industry has a history of digging into peoples pockets and taking advantage. I am interested in giving back to the consumer." Toskan said.

M·A·C Cosmetics also uses a word of mouth strategy. It only takes a few women to tell their friends how much they like a certain powder or certain lip gloss before they're all racing to the counters.
"You don't really have to spend on advertising, yet your products on everybody's lips."
M·A·C show the fact that if the product stay in quality, it’s not important to advertisement. This is the key word of M·A·C success. Although, M·A·C does not advertise at all, M·A·C has a great position on corporate and social responsibility. The public image of this business is supported, due to many different surroundings.
· M·A·C is "cruelty-free" and does not test its products on animals.
· They use simple black and white (recyclable) packaging and they encourage recycling with the "Back-to-Mac" campaign.
· M·A·C VIVA GLAM Lipstick or Lipglass, 100% of the selling price is donated to the M·A·C AIDS Fund that was established by M·A·C for supporting men, women, and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally.

Company background

Make-up Art Cosmetics, better known as M·A·C cosmetics is international cosmetics brand which produces skin and hair care, beauty products, and especially cosmetics. Originally, M·A·C was admittedly and popularly in fashion industry; professional make up artists, models and celebrities.
In 1985, M·A·C was found by Frank Toskan, 45, in Toronto, Canada. Previously, he was a make up artist, hairstylist and photographer. He developed his own professional cosmetics because he felt that the existing lines didn’t work well with the harsh lighting used in photography, stage, film and video work. M·A·C cosmetics started at Toskan’s kitchen table with the help of his high school chemistry book and Victor Casale, his chemist brother-in-law was an assistant. They tried to blend a new color. One year later, Toskan formed a partnership with Frank Angelo, a veteran entrepreneur (previous owner of a chain of beauty salons). At first they were turned down by banks, they had to mortgage everything in order to get the company going. They envisioned a makeup company that would be for All ages, all races, all sexes; this later became the company motto.
Today, M·A·C is a one of highest demand cosmetics product available. William Lauder, of Estee Lauder Companies, discovered M·A·C and saw its tremendous possible as a leader of a new category of cosmetic brands. In 1994, Estee Lauder bought 51% of M·A·C Cosmetics for $38 million, with the aim to purchase the other 49% finally. With the death of Frank Angelo in 1997 of a sudden heart attack, Frank Toskan sold the remainder of the company to Estee Lauder in 1998, for approximately $60 million, and subsequently resigned from the company.
Estee Lauder has done a fantastic job keeping Toskan and Angelo’s unique vision at the forefront, and M·A·C remains one of the top rated, loved and successful cosmetics brands in the world today.

Rationale

Beauty and women can’t separate at all; I believe that woman around the word agree with this statement. I’m just a general woman who isn’t beautiful and perfect since was born, so it’s not unusual that I’ll find something which can make me look better.
Nowadays, we have many ways to make you good looking; some ways are easily and safety but some is not. Plastic surgery might be the answer of someone who wants to be permanent beautiful, but this way is several danger and risk; therefore, making up is the best and easiest choice for women who don’t want to be painful and risky. Exactly, my answer is making up, so I began to find the information about cosmetics on the online community. Amazingly, most of blogs that I searched recommend M·A·C brand. Why do they like M·A·C? I asked myself. Then I have followed many blog on bloggang.com for update review M·A·C product. Thus, I’m so interested in this brand so much; I love color cosmetics of M·A·C because I’m a person who love colorful and modern style. From the reason, it’s better if I would know deeply in M·A·C cosmetics brand.

4th week, Journal 16-18 2009
On Tuesday 16, Aj. Gob lectured about marketing mix 4Ps strategy again but she focused on product strategy. She chose Apple or Macintosh brand for giving example. Aj. Gob showed her IPOD touch (I wanna have it so much!) and let we think it related to product strategy. Every product must have the unique of itself. That mean the unique is the selling point of product. Aj. Gob wanted us to realize that if we’re a marketing man and we have to sell some product, we must find the unique or the strength point of product to make it different from other brand. So, if we can’t find the positioning of product, we can’t do selling marketing anymore because we won’t know how to promote our product. And from this lecturing, Aj. Gob let me think about what is your positioning? It made me thinking a lot but now I still don’t know it. For my opinion, may be my strong point is a weakness of the other so now I can’t find my positioning yet. Before class finished Aj. Gob gave the homework about job interviewing and she said that she wanna see some thing naturally and don’t prepare it. I like it!
On Thursday 18, my group is the first one to show job interviewing activity. I wasn’t excited much because Aj. Gob wanted to see natural interviewing and the important reason is I wanted to know my ability that I can do it or not. I feel free so much when I did it. I love your direction, comment, and teaching style.

3rd week, Journal 9-11 2009

On Thursday 11, class started with warm up activity: Speaking and brainstorming activity. It’s about the core value of product. In my opinion, Aj, Gob wanted to relate with the product strategy because we have to think about the reason of buying. In fact, we don’t buy something because of necessity or need. But, there are many factors which have influence our consideration to buy something. From this activity it could show me that advertising and other promotion very attract my decision. However, each product has the unique positioning and target market differently so we should know the core value of each product well.
I really like this activity because there is a lot of knowledge that hide in the world around me.
Congratulation for our 1 month Anniversary!! Yo ho!!

2nd week, Journal 2-4 2009
On Tuesday 2, Aj, Gob started to give me more the details of course syllabus and blog project, it spent time nearly the whole class. The one thing that is very important for me is the rules of class, that Aj. Gob said, we can’t not absent over 5 time of this course, if we can’t follow this rule, we must stop in this course. Since I studied here (Walailak University), I never have heard this rule from other teachers before, THAT’S SO COOL. Before class finished, she gave me a little bit homework that is searching the recent hot news about GM bankruptcy. It’s so interesting.
On Thursday 4, English for International Trade has begun already. I really expected in teacher. The first activity was summary the meaning of business and careers in business. For me the meaning of business in present is changing. In the past business is exchange or trade but in modern time business compose of 3 main parts
· Production is the process of production.
· Distribution is moving the product from factory to market place.
· Sale of goods and service is how to exchange the goods into money and make the most profit and make the customer satisfy in sale after service.
After that, Aj. Gob lectured about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs which I ever have studied in Principle Management course before but it has something differently. In my opinion, Aj. Gob didn’t teach only the knowledge from text book or the meaning of someone but she adapted with the real thing in this modern world and gave a lot of example which is the best way to make more understand not remember.
Thank you for your spirit
Dr. Gob

On Tuesday 26 is the first class of English for International Trade and the first meeting between Dr. Adcharawan Buripakdi and me. Before class began I tried to imagine about her and wait in the room. And then, teacher arrived with her big bag, my first impression was she looks smart and sporty guy, I really liked it. She didn’t get the beautiful dress, she just looked like a generally, she didn’t make up any more, she just came with her natural face but I could see intention in her eyes.
When class began, teacher was introduced herself and described about this course. After that, everybody had to do the pretest that sounds terrible for me. This pretest is about using English for business, it’s not difficult. For the first meeting that it’s so impressively a lot for me.
On Thursday 28, I was really excited, what teacher going to do in this class. She said that she heard our voice, I like this word so much, I don’t know why I like that but it makes me feel good because I think she can understand and accept our feeling and ability which I never heard it before form other teacher. Then, she talked about the course syllabus and the final project of this course.
Even though, she gave a lot of work, it’s not annoyed me at all. I’m enjoyed to do it and have fun with this course.
