Make-up Art Cosmetics, better known as M·A·C cosmetics is international cosmetics brand which produces skin and hair care, beauty products, and especially cosmetics. Originally, M·A·C was admittedly and popularly in fashion industry; professional make up artists, models and celebrities.
In 1985, M·A·C was found by Frank Toskan, 45, in Toronto, Canada. Previously, he was a make up artist, hairstylist and photographer. He developed his own professional cosmetics because he felt that the existing lines didn’t work well with the harsh lighting used in photography, stage, film and video work. M·A·C cosmetics started at Toskan’s kitchen table with the help of his high school chemistry book and Victor Casale, his chemist brother-in-law was an assistant. They tried to blend a new color. One year later, Toskan formed a partnership with Frank Angelo, a veteran entrepreneur (previous owner of a chain of beauty salons). At first they were turned down by banks, they had to mortgage everything in order to get the company going. They envisioned a makeup company that would be for All ages, all races, all sexes; this later became the company motto.
Today, M·A·C is a one of highest demand cosmetics product available. William Lauder, of Estee Lauder Companies, discovered M·A·C and saw its tremendous possible as a leader of a new category of cosmetic brands. In 1994, Estee Lauder bought 51% of M·A·C Cosmetics for $38 million, with the aim to purchase the other 49% finally. With the death of Frank Angelo in 1997 of a sudden heart attack, Frank Toskan sold the remainder of the company to Estee Lauder in 1998, for approximately $60 million, and subsequently resigned from the company.
Estee Lauder has done a fantastic job keeping Toskan and Angelo’s unique vision at the forefront, and M·A·C remains one of the top rated, loved and successful cosmetics brands in the world today.
